Grasmere Primary School
School Profile
- Grasmere Primary School is a rural school, 14 km from
the major town of Warrnambool (see local area map ) and
has an enrolment for 2005 of 41, most of the children travel to and from school
by bus with remainder travelling by car.
- The school enrolment includes students from
Framlingham, Purnim, Cooramook, Grasmere and Warrnambool, with a large number
primary age students from the Framlingham Aboriginal
Community attending the school. The diverse enrolment brings into the
school a range of expertise and experiences which allows for greater cultural
understanding. Parents from a range of occupations complement the operation and
support of the school curriculum.
The school provides a focal point for the community. Maintenance of a watering
system for the oval provides for a Fire Refuge Assembly point for the Grasmere
District. The school is adjacent to the Grasmere Community Hall and tennis
courts and access to these community facilities establishes links with the
wider community. The hall is used for concerts, visiting Arts shows and indoor
wet weather physical education.
- The school has spacious grounds with an oval, tennis
court, constructed play equipment areas, fitness track and native garden areas
for recreation (see school site map......with
pictures ).
Warrnambool Disability Services maintains the grounds (mowing and slashing) and
the Environment Sub-Committee of School Council organises for regular social
working bees for safety repairs and further enhancement of the grounds.
- The school offers multi-aged programmed learning in all
eight curriculum areas with resources regularly updated. There are many
enrichment and support programs to help develop the major key learning areas.
These include instrumental music, gifted children's writing camps, a camp
program at all grade levels, a variety of sports programs and visiting Science
and Arts Programs.
- The school is equipped with an Art room/Perceptual
Motor Program - PMP/Assembly/TV room, a Library/classroom and a Computer room.
- Our Charter priority is Numeracy. We aim to develop and
implement teaching and learning strategies in the classroom to more effectively
cater for the range of individual needs.
- Our school encourages community involvement in school
curriculum areas and the general physical environments. The School Council and
Parents' Association are very proud of the school. Major fundraiser for the
year is the highly successful fashion parade.
School Council and Parents' Association
work together to present this magnificent event.
- As part of the Christmas celebrations the children
perform their Christmas Pageant. The pageant is
held in the Grasmere Uniting Church. Lots of carol singing and dressing-up as
Mary and Joseph, and the Three Wise Men, and more.
- The end-of-year Christmas Concert always generates a
great deal of excitement for the children. Towards the end of Term 4 the
children practice their skits for the Christmas Concert
and have a wonderful time during the concert, and the big treat is when Santa
arrives at the conclusion of the night. It's a wonderful way to finish the
school year.
- A Junior School Council was formed in 1997.
- The professional development of teachers
follows a set plan and is aimed at personal development, Department of
Education initiatives and Charter Priorities.
